OBDF10C-The Coat Hook Concept Generations and Final

Coat Hook Concept Generations

Concepts

Dieter Ram Ideas Within Concepts

I feel as though these concepts are aesthetic, honest, and understandable. They aren't super crazy designs but they are still interesting and could still do their job.

These three concepts are innovative and aesthetic. The "two fingers" concept inspired from Elden Ring are super simple, but I feel like they would be very affective to pull off. However, I would have to come up with a base design that isn't damaging and long lived. Additionally, these are understandable ideas. The two designs are clearly fingers, and the hockey sticks with a puck base are very clear as well.

These four designs are aesthetic and can act as stand alone decorations within a room.

The two concepts within this image are interesting and honest. You can clearly see what they are used for. The sketch on the left could definitely be argued as long lived as it has a simpler design with shapes that appear as though they wouldn't get damaged easily. Both ideas a both aesthetic and could be an interesting stand alone piece in an environment.

Out of all of my designs this one seems the most doable while still being interesting. Furthermore, I believe it would be possible to print this one nicely.

Peer Critique

(The image above includes the 6 concepts (out of all the ones I have come up with) that I chose for critique)

Feedback

I received quite a bit of positive feedback for my concepts from my peers. As predicted, a lot of them shared their concerns of the printability for some of my ideas, especially with concepts 1,2, and 3, however they seemed to find them quite interesting nonetheless. I expressed during our discussions my desire to go forward with concept 6. and they appeared to have agreed with my decision.

After critique I realized that I didn't put much thought into how I could think of mounting my concepts, therefore I started generating some ideas here. Even though I'm only moving on with the one concept, I thought it would be good practice to come up with some ideas with the other concepts as well.

Here is my first attempt at recreating my design in Rhino. I must say, this was a lot more challenging than i had anticipated. I feel like I need to research more tools that I can use to execute my idea completely.

I thought my first model looked rather boring so I tried to add some additional details. I am not sure I like this one though. Additionally, this would make the hanger much weaker.

                                   Learning Some New Tools!

Learning to insert images in order to better replicate my concept!

I looked up how to mirror the object I order to to make a prefect flipped copy of my object (just use the mirror tool wow! crazy...)

After modeling my coat hanger in Rhino8, I'm realizing that the hook may be too thick for the type of base I'm planning on making. Ill have to come up with different ideas on how I will mount this.

Here is my product with the final mount form. I realized that with the base I made that it would be hard to screw the model into the wall from there. Additionally, if I had gone with my previous decision to make the model hang over the door, it would also not function well with the bottom of my hanger. I decided to extend the top in order to fit in two screws, stack on top of one another. I feel like this was the best decision. I like how the extended top looks aesthetically.

Here is my coat hanger model in PrusaSlicer. After playing around with the different support types available, I've discovered that I have to be wasteful in order for this to print properly, and have supports everywhere. Because of all the curves and sharp edges all over the object, it wont print correctly otherwise.

After printing out my model in 2d, I have come to the conclusion the the screw holes needed to be larger, and that my model was quite wide so I adjusted those.

Here is my final model

In PrusaSlicer, I figured out that if I printed it out on its side then I wouldn't have to include ANY supports, which is fantastic since that means that there is less waste material from my hanger.
